Come along as we discover his daily tasks, what he’s working on now, and what he loves about being a data scientist at Cetasol.

What are you currently working on?
Right now, our main focus at Cetasol is to expand our solution to reach more customers. This involves scaling up and stabilizing our data and model pipelines to ensure we can deliver all our features at the expected quality to both existing and new customers. We’re also exploring new ways to enhance the user experience and add value to our offerings.

You have worked at a large corporation before, what is the biggest difference of working in a startup?
The biggest difference is the impact you have on the products being developed. In large companies, individual impact is often limited, for better or worse. You might feel like a small cog in a big machine, and it can be frustrating when decisions are made without your input. However, working in a startup like Cetasol allows for a much greater sense of ownership and influence over the direction of the product. There’s also a lot more room for creativity and innovation, as you’re not bound by rigid corporate structures and processes.

What do you like most about working on iHelm and CetaFuel?
The most rewarding aspect is identifying issues in the current marine market and creating solutions that truly matter. Our work not only reduces environmental impact but also improves customers’ financial outcomes. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that our efforts are making a tangible difference in the world, both in terms of sustainability and economic efficiency. Additionally, working on innovative projects like iHelm and CetaFuel allows for constant learning and growth, as we’re always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the maritime industry.

What do you like the most working at Cetasol?
The best part about working at Cetasol is the collaborative teamwork towards a shared goal of improving the maritime industry. Everyone here is passionate about what they do, and there’s a real sense of camaraderie and mutual support. It’s inspiring to be surrounded by such talented and dedicated colleagues who are all working towards a common purpose. Additionally, the company culture is very dynamic and inclusive, with plenty of opportunities for personal and professional development.

What do you like about being a data scientist?
I enjoy the challenge of finding solutions for various problems. Data science is constantly evolving with new data acquisition possibilities, allowing for innovative techniques to solve different issues. I’m always excited to explore new techniques and see how they can address the challenges we face today. Additionally, being a data scientist allows me to work on a wide range of interesting projects across different industries, which keeps things fresh and exciting.

Did you always know you wanted to work with data science?
My interest in data science grew during my education when I realized its wide applicability across different fields. I saw its potential to solve numerous problems in the future, which motivated me to pursue it as a career path. While I didn’t have a specific plan to become a data scientist from the outset, I’ve always been drawn to analytical thinking and problem-solving, so it felt like a natural fit for me.

Thank you Simon!
