Creating vessels free from emission. Taking care of the environment. Creating a quiet experience for both sea life and customers. Brim Explorer is working toward a sustainable operation and is installing iHelm to further support that process.
“Brim Explorer is a tourism company trying to operate in a more sustainable way. All our vessels are built with batteries to reduce our emissions. Two of our boats are hybrid electric, and one is fully electric. Our vessels are platforms designed to experience the ocean, with big panoramic windows, comfortable saloons, and large deck areas to enjoy being at sea. “
“We operate in Tromsø, Lofoten, Oslo and Svalbard. Currently, we’re building two new ships to be launched in 2023 in new destinations. Our most popular product is whale watching in Tromsø.“
“First of all, we try to minimize our emissions by building electric and hybrid ships, and with the Cetasol systems installed in our entire fleet, we also hope to learn to operate even more sustainably by adapting how we run our tours. Our vessels are designed to have minimal impact on the nature around us, with large slow-moving propellers reducing sound pollution, and we are always mindful of how we approach wildlife without disrupting their behavior.”

“By installing Cetasol iHelm we will learn more about our total energy consumption, and be able to identify how we can improve the way we plan and operate our tours.”
Strong sustainability focus for a better world
“We started the company in 2018 and built our first vessel in 2019 motivated by making tourism at sea better and more sustainable. Before this, we were operating wooden sailing vessels in the arctic, where one of our vessels was a hybrid electric ship. Installing emission-reducing technology is one important step towards reducing emissions, however how we operate our ships is also crucial to reduce our impact.”

“We have looked at several systems, but iHelm is the system that shows the most potential to provide the information and feedback we need to improve operations and save fuel, and ultimately money in our operation.”
